Repetitive Strain Injury Claims Solicitors

Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI) is a general description given to pain in muscles, nerves and tendons caused by overuse or repetitive movements. Another commonly used term is Work Related Upper Limb Disorder.

There are a number of named conditions, which fall within these descriptions including but not limited to:

  • Tennis Elbow
  • Golfers Elbow
  • Tenosynovitis
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Trigger Finger
  • Trigger Thumb

The most commonly affected areas are the wrists, hands, forearms, elbows, neck and shoulders and symptoms include pain, stiffness, tingling, numbness and cramps.

How do people get repetitive strain injuries?

RSI is typically associated with workers engaged in high intensity activity for a long time without rest, poor posture or activity which requires you to work in an awkward position, stress and cold temperatures, although some of these conditions can be attributable to other causes.

Sometimes a specific condition cannot be diagnosed because the symptoms do not fit into any one particular category. These are described as non specific upper limb pain.

Working with repetitive strain injuries

If you work in an environment as outlined above or if you are carrying out repetitive heavy manual work, you firstly need to inform your employers who should then carry out an assessment of your work.  This should include your work position, posture, system of work amongst other things and they should adjust your work as necessary. If symptoms then continue you should see your GP in the first instance. The GP may suggest anti inflammatory medication, relaxation techniques, physiotherapy, yoga and sometimes injection therapy. Surgery can also be an option for certain conditions.
